    Jack, You might find "geargen" of some use. It does not do mod gears, only dp but it will output to dxf etc. and works well - I have used it a number of times....

    You might consider lapping the slides to see if that helps. There are many articles on lapping if you search for them. Just be careful to clean all the lapping...
